The City of Battle Creek always has been very supportive of its businesses. This support has been clearly demonstrated through the City's willingness to grant tax abatements. If a tax abatement is approved by the City of Batte Creek (with State Tax Commission concurrence) the majority of the local property tax can be cut in half for up to 12 years under the provisions of Michigan Public Act 198 of 1974 as amended. A tax abatement allows a 50% reduction of local mills assessed on new buildings, machinery and equipment.
